FAMOUS FEATHERS

Margaret Feather

Margaret lived in the fish & Chip shop on Mill Hey Haworth between 1937 and 1946, her Uncle Leslie had the last of the Muffin shops further along the road.

Margaret made her mark in swimming in the 1950's, successfully crossing the English Channel.  She was the youngest at 17 in the first Daily Mail race in 1950 and later on in two of the Butlin races.

The first Nile swim in Egypt was a disaster with only two completing the course out of 29.  Margaret won first woman for effort.  She was also the first woman to complete the Capri-Naples swim in 1955.  Then retired!!!
